Romania’s Joma kits from 2015 to present day

Last update: October 2024

Below, you will find a visual representation of the kits used by Romania national football team, specifically those manufactured by Joma. It is worth noting that between 1984 and 2015, Romania was sponsored by adidas and played only in adidas template shirts (read more about it here). In 2015, Joma was announced as the new sponsor for the national team.

September 2024 update:
By the end of 2024, Romania Men’s National Football Team will have 100 games played in Joma shirts.

2023–2025
— UEFA Euro Championship 2024 qualifiers
— UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2023

Thrid (blue) and goalkeeper first choice (green)

^ In my simulations, the official competition patch is on the left sleeve for cosmetic reasons, though it is traditionally on the right. Additionally, the shirt’s V-neck collar is not shown in the simulations.

Facts:

  • Goalkeepers have 3 color variations of shirts: black, light green, grey
  • Match shirts come also in 3 colors: yellow, red and blue
  • First game in the new kits was Andorra 0:2 Romania on 25.03.2023, yellow shirts were used
  • Match details were pushed on 3 lines of text rather than two
  • The Romanian crest on the shorts is very tiny compared to other shorts editions
  • The chest “J” mark is bigger compared to other shirts editions
  • The “J” mark is made out of different material compared to other shirts editions
  • As of July 2024 all variations of shirts have been used. The blue, third shirt, was used only by the Futsal National Team.
  • As of October 2024, red away shirt was used only in one game: Colombia 3:2 Romania on 26.03.2024
  • Matchworn.com has signed an agreement with the Romanian Football Federation to auction player-worn shirts from each game. This agreement is effective from March 2024. Euro 2024 shirts were auctioned there
  • Design elements: Romanian flag on the cuffs, tilt vertical belt on each waist that have the brand design symbols, the gold aquila, aurochs, dolphins, black aquila, and lion. Hardly visible with the naked eye. V-neck collar. Way tighter fit than previous ones
  • Shirt particular V-neck style was appreciated by many of the players therefore it was decided to be kept for the upcoming set of kits

Update August 2024
Since 2021, I have been tracking the shirts worn by Romania’s national teams across all games. This includes the men’s senior team, women’s senior team, and the U21 and U20 youth teams.

When I started, no such information was readily available, so I relied on videos and images from the web to document which shirts were worn in which games. Goal was to create a centralized record and eventually expand it to include data from before 2021.

If you enjoy statistics, here’s an interesting one: The latest shirts from Joma, introduced in March 2023, have seen the men’s senior team play 18 games as of August 2024. Romanian men’s senior team has never lost a game when the goalkeeper was wearing the green shirt. All defeats were when the grey goalkeeper shirt was used. Statistically the yellow shirt is so far the most “successful” one since Joma took over in 2016.

Update September 2024
I got confirmation, 23 September 2024, that the blue shirts will be used for the game against Lithuania due to be played 15 October 2024, Nations League. First official game and debut of the blue shirt for Senior Men’s Team.

Ianis Hagi, Razvan Marin, Ciprian Deac, Cristian Manea, Alexandru Maxim, Dennis Man, and Gabriel Iancu had the opportunity to wear it. This was the first and, as of 2023, the only long sleeve edition produced by Joma for Romania.
